Saira Banu: Hindi Film Industry's Vibrant Actress

In her acting career spanning over twenty years, Saira Banu appeared in films from 60s to 1980s, which attracted audience. Naseem Banu, well known star who ruled the film industry throughout the '30s and '40s, is her mother. Wonderful acting ability and charming self are her trademarks. Her spontaneity and vibrancy can be seen while she acts. She has several different films and distinct roles to her credit. Career in Movies.

Her debut movie - at the age of 17 - Junglee, released in 1961, along with Shammy Kapoor is well-known for its song Chahe Koi Mujhe Junglee Kahe. In the list of forty films that she acted in, Gopi, Duniya, Deewana and Sagina were popular ones. Because of her performance in Sagina, Deewana and Shagird, she became the nominee for Filmfare Best Actress Award. Even though, a few of her films did not do well at box office, her performance was noticed. Through her films, she tried to be versatile. She picked various films like Shagird, a comedy flick, Chaitali, a socially inclined one and Bairaag, a heart warming one. Popular actor Dilip Kumar was her co-actor in most of the movies.

Evergreen Films.

One of her most popular films is Padosan (released in 1968) acting along side Sunil Dutt, Mehmood and singer Kishore Kumar. In this comedy movie, the male character makes attempts to draw attention of the actress with an image of a singer. This film, which has some most popular song tracks in it, was commercially successful. Ek Chatur Naar, Mere Saamnewaali Khidki Mein and Main Chali Main Chali were some of the popular songs in it.

Saira Banu also performed in films like Aayi Milan Ki Bela, Jhuk Gaya Aasman, Bluffmaster, Aman and April Fool. She could work with several actors like Biswajeet, Dharmendra, Rajendra Kumar and Joy Mukherji. The romantic pair of Saira Banu and Rajendra Kumar was well-accepted by the public. Their film Aayi Milan Ki Bela was successful at the box office. The movie also had popular song tracks like Aha Aye Milan Ki Bela Dekho, Tum Khamseen Ho, Mai Pyar Ka Diwana, Tu Bura Maan Gaye and O Sanam Tere Ho Gaye.

Personal Life.

Saira Banu married Dilip Kumar in 1976 when she was 22 and decided to quit acting to concentrate on family life. However she gave guest appearances in Duniya (1984) and Faisla , released in 1984. Her contribution to film industry was feted with Lifetime Achievement Award in International Film Festival at Pune in 2011.
