Home Theater Systems Enhance One's Entertainment Options

By Kenny Marcum

Whit the introduction of flat screen televisions that are not dependent on tubes, sets have grown to a much larger size. Unfortunately, many of the flat panel sets do not provide adequate sound quality. Home theater systems offer in the box speakers to the television transforming one's family room so it provides the same sound quality of a movie house.

Today, the most common of these devices are either a 5.1 or a 7.1 channel device. The 5 and 7 indicate the number of sonically matched speakers. In addition, the sets often include a subwoofer. Often the units include wireless rear speakers along with an iPod dock. Top end units feature a Blu-ray player that also allows one to access online content in order to stream movies from subscription services.

These devices often are available in a large variety of prices. The cheapest options usually have five speakers and may not even have a DVD player. The seven channel Blu-Ray sets may be three or more times as expensive in cost, but provide more viewing options, with the ability to play DVDs and stream content in addition to the Blu-ray disks.

The best models produce very clear 1080p pictures at a high-def quality. They also up-convert standard DVDs, although picture quality varies by model. Within the different options sound qualities vary greatly.

The plug and play soundbar units are popular with some consumers. They connect directly to one's television and do not require a receiver. While sound quality is generally good, surround sound suffers with these devices. They do not provide speakers located at the back of the viewing room but attempt to create the surround sound experience using electronics.

Home theater systems give owners a movie house experience in the comfort of their own house. When combined with a large television, they are an excellent choice for watching movies, television programs and sports events. The right unit can also enhance one's music listening experience as well.
