Why Self Hypnosis For Weight Loss Is So Effective

By Jaclyn Hurley

Hypnosis refers to the act of inducing a trance state of deep relaxation, and heightened awareness. Usually, a qualified hypnotherapist would guide a client into such a meditative frame of mind, for purposes of what can be called deep reprogramming. Self hypnosis for weight loss involves the same principles, except that here hypnotically induced reprogramming, accompanied by appropriate suggestions, are self induced.

Hypnotherapy has proven to be a safe and effective therapeutic procedure to help people change negative habits like gambling, procrastination, or smoking, for example. The key to its effectiveness lies in that it works with the subconscious part of the personality, which houses the blueprints or motives for much behaviour patterns. In a state of hypnotic induction, specific suggestions from the therapist, or the individual, helps to reprogram the mind to become susceptible to new, desired, empowering beliefs, thoughts, and motives.

Individuals that are able to self induce a trance-like state for therapeutic purposes generally learn the correct procedure from a hypnotherapist. Hence, newcomers that wish to shed excess fat through this process are better off consulting with the proper professional for guidance first. This would help to ensure achieving the desired outcome, after having learned, and rehearsed, the proper procedure to trigger a state of hypnotic relaxation by oneself.

Much of learning to reprogram the subconscious mind hypnotically involves replacing old, limiting, self-defeating beliefs and behaviours with new, empowering ones. It is in essence a matter of offering specific, appropriate suggestions to the mind while it is deeply at ease. Moreover, in that mental mode of utter calm and alertness, the person gets to visualize many times over what the new personality looks and feels like, after having reached the desired goals.

When it comes to losing extra fat through self-initiated hypnotherapy, the first step would be to make a list of the problem behavioural patterns and beliefs that contribute to being overweight. These might include overeating, consuming unhealthy foods, or impulsive eating, or even feelings of anxiety when under stress. For the process to work, it is important to have a clear idea of what the problematic, target beliefs and behaviours are, and what the alternative, wanted ones are, before going into a hypnotic state.

It might be that the mind needs reprogramming by getting rid of problematic beliefs about food and the self. This could include troublesome beliefs like 'eating is good for stress release, ' or 'I will always be fat, no matter what I do.' Moreover, replacing old, negative actions with positive new ones could entail choosing to avoid junk food, eating slowly, getting into an exercise routine, or taking up meditation to help with anxiety and stress.

Hypnotically induced suggestions for therapeutic purposes are not about wished-for fantasies. Fantasizing about losing excess pounds is not going to help, if no concrete action is taken to address the issue. Applying under self-generated hypnotherapy is one such action step, and a powerful one that delivers sought-after outcomes, if done correctly, consistently, and with patience.

Successful hypnotherapy, even when self-initiated, have worked for individuals that have practised it often enough. People that have managed to achieve the hoped-for body size and shape through regular sessions are evidence of its effectiveness. It may not work for everyone, but it has, and continues to, deliver the desired outcomes for many people.
