How To Enhance The Item As A Clothing Photographer

By Kathrine Franks

Open a magazine and what will you find. Pages and pages of accessories, clothing and models. These items are advertised so that readers will be enticed to purchase them. The pictures are there to tease potential buyers. To make them want what is for sale.

In commercial and fashion industries one essential aspect is the apparel. A clothing photographer is tasked with an important job. They must make the garment appealing through the picture.

Clothes do not have a life. They are flat items that just lie there. You need to learn the lighting techniques that can make it look good and catch attention. The right balance of dark and light will make the piece pop on camera. It will give it definition.

Clothing companies use steamers so that the apparel looks flawless in stores and on the web site. If you want to sell your own items you need to iron it before you take the pictures. A quick run through with an iron will do wonders in making the piece look better.

If you have the time you can hire a model for your photo shoots. Working with a person will show the buyers how the outfit should look when it is worn. This will require more time to take pictures than if you were to just capture the items alone.

A mannequin is a good option. They still give you the illusion of a body but they are inanimate and wont cause distractions. It will give a good idea on how it will look when worn. As customers you want to be able to imagine what it looks like. Dress forms can also achieve the same effect and they do not cost as much as a full body mannequin.

As a clothing retail company or even if you are just selling your own items online, the image is your best weapon. Provide good quality pictures that show details of the material. Multiple pictures from different angles are also a bonus. Showing as much of the piece as possible is what a consumer requires. Everything can be done online and so customers also like to buy their apparel and accessories online. The main difference is that they can not touch the items and so the photo is their only way to get a sense of what the piece looks like.

There is a huge demand for this type of photography. The fashion industry is very lucrative and they are the main user of these types of photos. They invest a lot to get the best images of their stock because they know that the better quality photos will make the item more appealing to customers. The industry knows that if they can present it correctly, it will translate into a huge increase in sales and demand.

Remember lighting is important. Catch the details of the item. Iron all apparel so that it looks pristine and crisp when it is presented. It needs to be presented in the best possible way to attract buyers. The better the picture is, the more attractive your piece will look and the more buyers it will attract.
