How To Design Handmade Organic Lip Balm

By Margaret Kennedy

Your lip consists of thin and soft skin that is prone to crack, chaps, and peels. It requires regular care to keep it strong and healthy. Use of moisturizer that contains harmful chemicals worsens the already bad situation. In case you are living in an area that experiences much wind and sun, you will have to deal with chapped and dry lips on a regular basis, if you are not careful. Instead of buying moisturizer when you are not sure if it will be effective, consider making a handmade organic lip balm. It is both cost-effective and healthy.

Homemade moisturizers require keen eye and extra care. Wrong choice or mixing of ingredients can produce disastrous results. You should possess excellent researching skills. Various blogs and websites contain vital information that can simplify the process. You will have a chance to use quality oils and herbal products when you are making the lip balm personally. To make sure the correct amount of ingredients have been utilized, tablespoon measurement is the best option. You can use liquid oil (carrier) in three parts, one spoon of base wax, solid butter in one part, and at least two or three essential oil drops.

Beeswax can be substituted with candelilla wax, but not in equal measurements. When you are making a recipe substitution, a bigger volume of candelilla wax can be used. When castor oil is used during the designing process, a quality lip balm that leaves a glossy shine can be made. However, you will need to use a small amount of castor oil probably half tablespoons. The trick is to list down the ingredients and design a recipe.

Choose the ingredients wisely. Make sure they are all-natural and have significant benefits to your body. You can achieve this by Google searching health benefits of a particular ingredient you are intending to use. Place the chosen oil in a measuring cup, and add solid butter followed by beeswax. Stir thoroughly and ensure a uniform mixture has been achieved. The saucepan should be filled with water by few inches. This design creates a makeshift double boiler.

Heat the water gently and ensure the ingredients present in the cup have melted. Wipe the outer surface of the cup to eliminate chances of water droplet getting inside the cup. After adding two to three droplets of essential oil, stir the mixture thoroughly. Pour it into small tins or filling tubes.

To make your life easy, purchase a filling tray. The tray contains a large number of tubes; hence, you can make a large volume of lip balm. Make a point of capping and labeling the balm after it has completely cooled off. Use a heat gun to soften the tops.

Oils are available in diverse categories. This creates flexibility since you can use different type oils interchangeably. Impurities tend to accumulate on the dermal layer of your lips; a moisturizer made of natural and herbal products can be used to remove them completely. Bases such as sunflower, sweet almond, and olive oils are preferable.

A lip balm that is infused with natural colorants and powdered herbal products is healthy. Place a tablespoon of powdered herb in a mason jar, add few drops of essential oil, cap it, and set it up in a dark cabinet form a month.
