Justin Bieber's Rise to Fame

By Bob Smith

A platinum album in less than two months of release, seven songs from a debut album hitting the top pop 100, awards and nominations, live performances and world tours, this is now the life of a sixteen-year old Canadian pop and R&B singer, Justin Bieber. After his video was discovered on the YouTube by a former marketing executive, Scooter Braun, Justin Bieber's success has taken the music scene by storm.

When Justin Bieber's mother first became aware of his musical abilities she hoped he would become a Christian rock star. He had taught himself how to play guitar and keyboard and soon was playing for small change on the streets of his small Canadian hometown. In his first summer of performing he earned three thousand dollars in tips. He used this new-found source of income to take his mom with him for a visit to Disneyland. It was a nice sum of money for a poor fourteen year old kid but it was nothing compared to the fame and fortune which would soon be literally knocking on his door.

The amateur footage uploaded on YouTube caught the Atlanta manager's attention, Scooter Braun, who later became Bieber's manager. Braun then introduced Justin to RnB superstar Usher whom the latter arranged an audition with Antonio L.A. Reid at Island Def Jam Music Group. Reid in turn signed him to Island Records in October 2008.

Bieber's arguably most popular album, "My World," marked his debut release in November of 2009, and was impressively enough, certified as platinum in the United States. Other music he has recently released are some of the greatest hits from his albums "My World," "My World 2.0," and the relatively new "My World Acoustic." The tracks on the most recent of these have met with favorable reactions. Although Bieber's work showcases little variation in his musical style, that very style has also cultivated a loyal fan base. The R&B and pop, featuring the young singer's relatively high-pitched, easy to listen to vocals, is without a doubt, quite catchy. Some of the songs featured in Justin Bieber's "My World" collection album include brand new acoustic renderings of Bieber favorites, such as "One Time," "That Should Be Me," "Down to Earth," "U Smile," "Baby," "Stuck in the Moment," "One Less Lonely Girl," and a live performance of "Favorite Girl." Additionally, Bieber released a brand new number entitled "Pray."

Since then Justin has done several concerts worldwide, appearing on international stages and climbed the popularity charts thanks to young girls from six to sixteen. It is hard to say which is the biggest draw to this young man - his looks or his music, or perhaps the magic is the combination of the two. He is definitely on the road to success and his Justin Bieber doll collection will be a winner with his fans as well.

He performed in front of U.S. president Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama for the Christmas celebration at the White House. This performance included songs of Stevie Wonder's "Someday at Christmas", which was broadcast on TNT on December 2009. 52nd Grammy Awards featured Justin as a presenter too. For the benefit of Haiti earthquake, he lent his vocals for the remake of "We Are The World". This performance was later released with the name of "Young Artists for Haiti". And with so many product launches like the Justin Bieber doll, nail polish and fragrance, he sure is making his future financially secure.
