How Free Beats And Instrumentals Help Aspiring Musicians Learn From Professionals

By Ronnie Howards

Digital technology now makes it possible for talented artists to create their own music without stepping foot inside a traditional studio. Personal computer software is now advanced enough to give many aspiring musicians the capability of putting together high-quality recordings using original tracks and vocals, often in combination with free beats and instrumentals.

These no-cost downloads are perfect for practicing good vocal timing and a spontaneous, intelligent flow of words. Musical backdrops are often offered without charge by established professionals who want to encourage the development of new musical talent. Much of that material is considered royalty-free, meaning that no payment must be given to the original artist.

These downloads are often the most useful to musicians intent on creating rap or hip-hop tracks. Any up-and-coming artist who wants to record music for profit, however, must be aware of the legal limits of using this type of material. Although an established artist may not expect traditional payment, he or she does not forfeit existing copyright protections.

Downloaded material often comes with an attached digital voice tag that cannot be removed without violating the law. Some recordings may be used in an actual production, but credit must be always be given openly to the producers who originally distributed them. While there may not be a charge, that music is still owned by the originator, not the user.

Although some artists permit their material to be used for personal recordings, most bar distribution of that material on any website that normally offers music for sale. Some providers do allow their tracks to be used a single time, but there must be no money involved. Those uses may include making personal mixes, completing a special project for school, or any other non-profit endeavor.

Most musicians dream of being able to one day market their talents, and there actually are an increasing number of Internet sites that are allowing their downloads to be used in certain commercial applications. They may not be used as originally presented, however, but must have vocals recorded over the top of the background beat or instrumental to be considered legal.

Even with all these restrictions, free beats and instrumentals are one way to spur creative growth and learning. By saving the effort and time it would normally take to make their own tracks, aspiring artists can concentrate on perfecting musical techniques and abilities without having to spend a lot of extra money, which is a very important consideration for many musicians.
