Home Theater Systems: Cinema-Experience In Your Own Living Room

By Roger Ebertiatian

Owning a home theater system will let you experience the cinemas right in your own home. Below are the steps to build your own home theater.

Determine the height and width of your entertainment room

This is especially crucial if you wish to install a projection system. Projectors are dissimilar in terms of throw ranges so you must compare several models. For projectors with no zoom lens, the size of the projected image is determined by throw distance. For projectors with a zoom lens, the image dimensions can be adjusted without adjusting the throw distance, or the image can be kept at the same size even if the throw distance is altered.

Decide on a good layout

Don't place a projector close to a doorway so that your viewing will not be disrupted when somebody enters or goes out ofleaves the room. More often than not, having the projector and screen positioned perpendicular to windows and doors will give you a more hassle-free layout.

Wire your home theater

Make sure not to mount speaker, audio/video cords parallel to any electrical wiring. Also mount lights and dimmer switches to achieve a theater-like ambiance. Hire an electrician if you have no experience in wiring tasks. Doing this task on your own can be very dangerous, and in some jurisdictions it can be illegal.

Paint your room and cover the floor with carpet

You could paint the room in whatever color you prefer, but utilize flat colors to reduce reflection. Be sure to cover your floor with carpet as this helps ensure that people in nearby rooms or houses are not bothered. Carpeting will also boost the sound quality of your room as it reduces unnecessary echoing.

Add the speakers So that you can have a really unforgettable audio experience, place speakers in these positions: left front, center, right front, right rear, left rear, and subwoofer. If you are using a 7.1 system, then place right and left speakers. Experts advise against placing rear speakers too low as this can cause the sound to be loud in some scenes and therefore diminish what you can get from the center speaker.

Add equipment and furniture

Put the screen or TV where you can watch it straight on, and be sure to align its center with your eye line when you're seating. Add comfortable seats and other pieces of furniture that you feel are fantastic to have in that room. If you have little or no experience in carpentry, interior designing, or wiring electrical systems, seek the services of contractors to do this project for you. In most cases, this will be more cost-effective in the long run. There are several home theater installation contractors in Los Angeles, CA, and they differ in terms of price and quality of service, so make sure to compare 3 to 5 of them prior to choosing a provider.
