A Research On Quilting Classes

By Liliana Mills

Quilting classes are places where one can go and learn on how to come up with some of the quality quilts. These lessons may as well involve group sewers who come together to be able to pass knowledge on new skills and patterns. A research on them has reported that they end up producing quality quilters who end up making quilt according to customer desire.

It essentially involves use of needles and thread and can be done by hand, using a machine or by a specialized long arm kind of system. These threads, fabric, patterns and other goods used to make quilts are available in many quilt stores. These stores are sometimes able to lend machines to individuals that need them for learning.

When hand process is used, one can use three techniques including stab stitching, rocking and loading need. Stab stitching involves a single stitch at a time. The needle is passed down to the bottom of the cloth and up again. The rocking as well involves one hand at the top of the material with the other at the bottom while the loading needle requires that one loads a needle to about four times before it can be pulled through the cloth.

Quilting classes involves the patching together of all essential three layers; the top fabric, the insulating layer and the bottom backing material. Thread is used to patch these layers together. Most sewing start at the middle and move outwards. To assist an individual working on the quilt using the hand one uses a quilting frame to assist keep the three layers aligned.

A backing material is also desired to make a bottom cover. The three layers are then sewed up using a matching thread. In cases of hand work, quilting frames are used to hold the materials together for easier sewing.

Testing whether a material discolors may be done by dipping a small portion in warm water. It the color of involved water turns in color then one needs to look for the best way possible to get rid of the discolorations or use an alternative cloth. These cloths are then cut into the desired pattern chosen and the blocks are sewed together.

Borders are then added to the quilt as one goes ahead to choose the best batting and backing materials. These three layers are then sewed by matching thread up together to come up with the desired quilt. Through these beauty is added to the quilt as air is trapped that makes them warmer.

From a study on quilting classes, one gets to understand that these studies are not only for basic learners but even those qualified. There are many new patterns and designs that need to be passed on to some of the qualified quilting personnel. These as lead to development of the quilts designed and fashioned over years.
