When designing video games, it goes without saying that several elements will come into effect. Out of all of these, which one is the strongest? To me, it's the creation of characters but it's easy to overlook what is needed in order to make them as appealing as possible. What are some of the most important steps to consider as far as creating game characters is concerned? Art colleges can teach you a tremendous amount. Here are 3 ways that you can make these personalities in video games shine.
1. Make sure that you outline your character so that you have a model to follow. Whether the character is male or female is going to play heavily into the design process, but there is more that goes into this. There is another layer of importance when it comes to whether a certain personality will be taken as a hero or villain. While these concepts are very much basic on the surface, they are ones which mean the most when beginning the actual design process.
2. Aesthetics are vital in many forms of art and the same can be said about game design as well. The reason why I say this is because, typically, the best art colleges will be able to teach you about various styles, ranging from colorful and bright to dark and moody. If you want to create a character that is more lighthearted, for instance, you're not going to use harsher tones. Instead, you will want to incorporate a warmer palette that will then be utilized to bring life to the character in question.
3. Which style are you comfortable with? These days, it seems like more manga-like appearances are not as common in gaming, even though there is still an audience for it. Are you the kind of person who is able to hold his or her own while referring back to the Japanese style? It could also be a case of you wanting to try your hand at replicating realistic appearances, attempting to craft characters with the idea of making them as close to real life as possible.
These are just a couple of points to consider if you are attempting to create a video game character. It is important for you to learn from colleges focused on art so that you can have a general idea of how certain technologies work. After all, unless you are good with computers, you are not going to be able to make a name for yourself as a game designer. That being said, once you have this skill set in place, all you have to do is allow your imagination to run wild.
