Church Stage Lighting Design And Its Relevance

By Enid Hinton

Light allows us to define what is around us. Even a dark space requires some brightness to show exactly how dark it is. It has the ability to transform the spaces around us. Therefore, the relationship between luminescence and the architecture of a church stage lighting design is almost inevitable.

The house of God unlike other normal buildings is an exclusive place. It is designed in a way that each and every structure inside it has a meaning. It is symbolically constructed to make users and religious people be spiritually in touch with every single structure. It is modeled to attract people to get in touch with the Supreme Being. Additionally, it is also meant to perform other religious functions like preaching.

The most crucial and exclusive structure in a house of God is the platform. It holds most important people like pastors and pope. These people are responsible in giving out commands stated in the bible to the mass. They inspire people be true and honest to God. Moreover, functions like choirs are also held at the platform before preaching initiates. This makes the stage lighting design a very important aspect during planning.

The bible says that Jesus is the light that dazzles the entire world. This is a statement stressed in most church summons. This shows the importance of illumination. As such, architects ensure there is enough and the right brightness in the house of God.

It is used to clearly define forms that appear on the platform. For instance an artistic play of light will display the statue of Mary the mother of Jesus, as a glowing supreme being. Light would be used to exalt the form. Through the transformation by the radiance it seizes to be a statue and becomes a link to the heavens.

The design in the house of worship strives to have the following outcomes. One is the beauty. The stage should be in a way that it is spacious and attracts the eyes of the congregation. A large space means better freedom of either leaders or choir members to perform their duties. Moreover, it makes the house of God brighter and lively.

Secondly is the comfort of the eyes. Visual discomfort would be caused by admitting too much and resulting to sparkles. This is resulted by too much luminosity from the openings and high illumination levels from reflecting surfaces. It reduces the ability of individuals to see details. Uncontrolled glowing would not allow the leaders to read the holy books. It can also cause eye problems to the users of that particular space.

The third consideration would be energy efficiency. It minimizes electrical energy costs. One would choose to admit natural light during the day as it is free. At night, one opts for energy saving artificial illumination.

Church platform lighting design is therefore essential to ensure people stay comfortable and happy in the house of God.
