Suggestions For Tattoo Cover Up

By Edward Cook

If you have a tattoo, then you know what a commitment it is; a lifelong one, because not every person is able to undergo tattoo removal due to cost, time or even pain. However, you may need tattoo cover up solutions for specific situations. Here are a few suggestions to help you find an effective and affordable way to achieve what you want.

Deciding to get inked should not be a spontaneous decision, but on occasion, this is precisely the case. As a result of said spontaneity, sometimes tattoos are placed in areas that become a hindrance to every day living: an eyesore for work or family and friends, perhaps even offensive to others; it may not be aesthetically pleasing for certain occasions such as a wedding; or it simply may be something a person regrets doing.

The most efficient way to hide tattoos will be dependent on the placement or size of said artwork, and its density. It may simply be a case of using clothing or hair to hide the piece. This is very easy and costs nothing at all, used whenever necessary or until full removal becomes an option.

Many makeup brands sell specialty products for concealing things like tattoos or acne or other imperfections on the skin. They contain a high amount of pigment in order to effective conceal darker marks. It's always a good idea to use these products sparingly and build the layers you need gradually until you get the result you want, instead of putting it all on at once in one thick layer.

A good brand for concealing imperfections is Dermablend. Specifically known as a cover up brand, Dermablend sells a Leg and Body Cover, which is great for someone with a tattoo. It has medium-to-complete coverage which lasts 16 hours. Although this particular product does not smear and is also waterproof, some products would require you to set them properly once you've applied them so that they stay put.

Dermablend may be a bit pricey, but it is worth it to get the job done. Kat Von D is a former tattooing artist with her own self-named cosmetics brand. Surely this is someone who would know how to conceal a piece properly! Kat's Lock-It Concealer has gotten great reviews, with high pigment and also free of oils to do exactly what you need it to.

If you're looking for something a little more affordable, try the oil-free, maximum coverage concealer by E. L. F. Which is a bestselling product at only $3. Hard Candy also has a great product on offer. The Glamouflage Concealer costs only $6 and you get an additional pencil for outlining the artwork before concealing. These are available in a number of skin tones.

Covering up a piece with makeup is all well and good for temporary or occasional needs. This method works where an individual may not actually wish to get rid of the piece altogether, but only requires coverage for specific purposes. However, when a tattoo is more of a regret, it may be worth considering covering it with something to be proud of - such as a brand new piece of artwork worth talking about!
