Important Tips On Accelerated Reading

By Lisa Carter

Basically, accelerated learning is one method of learning that assists an individual to organize, arrange, as well as assimilate information faster. As a matter of fact, since the evolvement of the printing press, a majority of people have been exposed to information usually presented in written word. It is for this reason that people should learn how to gather and absorb the written word such that they can save time as well as energy through the accelerated reading.

Generally, there is an ongoing increase in expansion and influence of web multimedia services, where the written word tends to be somehow losing its ground little by little. However, written word still remains to be the most prevalent and popular means of presenting information up to today. Although it could be argued that the written word is also the major culprit of information overload, it puts a lot of pressure to gatherers of information who work hard to ensure that the written word makes sense to the whole world.

From a tender age, individuals usually condition and train themselves to take up the written word in various ways. A number of people are initially taught pronunciation techniques for every alphabetical letter at a time. Consequently, they are initiated into reading short words with guidance on how to pronounce every letter contained in the word as an individual character in order to verbalize the whole word.

As people continue to become older, they get more experienced on reading. As a result, they progress to larger words and they learn to verbalize those words as whole chunks. This help to improve and enhance speed. However, for many people, this is the point progression stops. The implication is that it starts a lifelong process where to read becomes inefficient and presents an ineffective way of absorbing larger amounts of information in the mind.

There are various methods used to accelerate how an individual reads. One method is the speed reading principle. This method involves the act of skimming, identifying, chunking and filtering specific pieces of information so as to accelerate learning. You skim the information such that you are able to get an overall picture of the subject as you remain in the meticulous details.

In chunking, one combines all relevant aspects in the same way as chunking specific letters to words. This aids in assimilating sentences or even paragraphs in quick successions. In addition, one is able to identify or filter information deemed as irrelevant in order to help them understand a topic. Speed-reading does not just involve how to fast-read but goes further to analyzing the process of transforming information to aid in quick learning of the information.

Another technique that is used to accelerate how you read is known as photo reading principle. The principle engages a preconscious form of awareness which naturally create creativity, fasten information absorption while opening a door for a non-judgmental learning. For this particular case, you close the conscious critical mind from this learning cycle. However, your conscious mind is necessary for inducing short and long-term memory, although it may become a hindrance due to the preconceived ideas or notions about the information you read.

The advantage of learning how to read at a higher speed can substantially reduce the study time and your efforts. Again, you can improve your comprehension speed and absorption of new information.
