Things To Keep In Mind When Choosing the Best Nail Polish For Your Salon

By Rosalinda R. Rees

Anyone planning on opening a nail polish salon has a lot to consider. There are the basic things, of course, like location, equipment, mission statement, etc. However, once you're at the stage of stocking your shop and drawing up your beauty menu, the decisions don't become any less pivotal. After all, what you offer and how well you execute it will ultimately determine the success of your business. We all know advertising only does so much!

So, we've made a list of important stuff to include on your list of can-do's. These are the products and procedures your customers CAN'T get at home; these are the things that are going to make people flock to your door.

Metallics - Some people may still consider purple nail polish to be wild and crazy. However sometimes your clients are going to want to take color a step further - and that's when you'll want to whip out the metallic stuff. Metallic polish comes in all colors, from silver and gold to aqua, chartreuse, and rose, and is ideal for big occasions such as New Year's Eve.

Decals - It is your responsibility as a nail artist to master the art of fine detailing, at least to some extent. However, sometimes even your most skilled painter will find herself at a loss as to how to create a certain effect. When it gets to this point, decals are your best friends. Stock your salon with a wide range of decals - flowers, stars, shapes, hearts, animals. Be sure you have a number of jewel decals on hand. Many people are going to ask for a little bling-bling in their manicures.

Gel (shellac) nail polish - Gel, otherwise known as "shellac," is perhaps the hottest thing in the nail world today. This is because gel nail polish is considerably thicker and stronger than normal matte nail polish Customers can't get gel at home, so it is crucial that you put it on your salon menu. Applying gels requires patience and the help of a UV lamp. Make sure you and your workers are all experts in gel application before you open up. Also make sure you keep only top-of-the-line polish in your store.
