I Adore The New Season's Block Dresses

By Claire Harbour

Block dresses are a summer must have, this gorgeous style of dress has been worn by the likes of Danni Minogue, Nicki Minaj and The Only Way is Essex star Jessica Wright. There are two distinct variations with this style of dress: loud and bright and smooth and sophisticated. Both styles are nice but I feel that the sophisticated more earthy tones need the spotlight!

I have to admit that I am always eager to find out which colors and styles will be in vogue in the coming season. However I feel it is imperative that I say that I am not fond of the neon dresses. I think that it is probably becasue I am someone who is very aware of color pairings. The only thing I am bold with is the height of my heels and the length of my dress, which I always keep at a respectable and acceptable height.

Okay, so rant over hehehe. I was raised in a rural part of the UK, I think this has always influenced my choice of clothing. I am always drawn to soft pastel and earthy sophisticated dresses. I was forced to sit up when I found out that my favorite fashion outlets such as Motel Rocks, Love Clothing and Goddiva bringing black block dresses to the fashion world, boy I was excited! I vowed to write an article, but in the mean time I had a more important engagement, with my wallet.. Yes I had to buy a few pieces, for research purposes, of course ;)

What I love about these sophisticated block dresses is that they used tones that are both soothing and eye pleasing I.e. black, pastel pinks, light greys and creams. What's even better is that they are easy to wear, and suit almost all body shapes and ages. A black and pastel block dress just looks more expensive than it neon counterpart, the ironic thing is that the two garments may have the same price tag.

Now, I think that we've agreed that the earthy pastel block dresses are in every sense the winning style, haven't we ladies? Block dress is simply a kind of colour / patterning, where the magic comes in is when we learn that this stlye can be applied to any cut of dress: from skater, maxi, peplum to bodycon. Wow!

Sometimes it can be difficult to find a superb looking block dress without having to pay for the designer price tag. with this in mind my team and I scoured the internet in search of the best block dresses we could found. So, why not take a look at our handpicked selection on blackdresszone(dot)com, you may find one you like :)
