How To Prepare For Dance Competitions

By Joyce Myers

Dancing is an amazing activity to engage it. Many people desire to become great dancers. This is because dancing has many economic, and health benefits. However, when you are dancing to win a competition, you cannot afford to dance casually. You need to take your dancing style a notch higher so as to be a significant participant in the competition. Preparing for a dancing competition is hard work. This is because you may need to balance extracurricular activities, social life, and school work. At times, the pressure may be too much and you may feel overstretched. However, with good preparation you can find winning dance competitions very easy.

You should avoid some mistakes that most dancers make while preparing for a competition. For instance, you should avoid the mistake of not having a fitness plan that is balanced. Simply attending classes two times every week and going home cannot leave you in the right shape. Dancing is more than practicing and perfecting your steps. You should also make sure that your body is healthy.

You should also not overstretch yourself during the last few weeks to the big day. This is because your body requires healing as well. Even as you work hard, take time to relax and enjoy a nap. Even if you have tight schedule in your class, you cannot afford to work like a robot. Enough sleep and relaxation is important.

The fact is that you are working towards winning the competition. However, you cannot afford to compare your abilities with the competition. You need to set your personal goals with the help of your trainers and work towards achieving them. You cannot afford to be concerned more on what other people in the competition are doing.

Also, be yourself before and during the competition. Some people get very anxious and are not able to think straight during practice. The fact is that if you are to put your creativity into practice, you have to be sober and at peace. This does not mean that you do not stretch your creativity; it only means that you understand what you are good at and capitalize on it.

While putting too much pressure is a risky behavior, being lazy is also a risky behavior. Some people assume that all will be well on the day of competition and thus fail to do what they ought to have done. Failing to put enough efforts and fixing corrections is as worse as overworking. In case you receive a correction from your trainer, make sure that you work on it.

You should also not assume that you know it all. Unless you are a professional in dancing, you need the help of trainers with experience and knowledge on how to make great moves. The trainers will also help you know your progress and monitor the areas you need to improve. You also need to gather ample information online and in a magazine to ensure that you become a top dancer.

Finally, take it easy during the day of competition. Make sure that you wear comfortable attire. Your confidence is important and you need to be sure that you look your best. Make sure that you enjoy yourself as you dance. This will make you find the competition fun rather than an assignment you have to do.
