The camera is small enough to slip in a pocket or buy a floatable wristband for serious water pictures. Didn't like the fact you had to open the camera up to charge it, so have gone out and ordered a separate battery charger.
Movies are spectacular, while the screen shows good reproduction, its nothing like once you get it on your computer! The metal lens protector on the front will move and not bounce back to position if the camera is turned off.
We liked the camera so much we just bought our daughter one for her birthday, and will buy another one so the wife and I won't have to share. I bought this camera for a trip to Kauai (in fact, there now as I write this). Anyway, I waited hoped it would work after drying out. Then LCD screen would constantly turn on and off. We spend tons of time at the beach, our pool and the waterpark so waterproof was necessary. The only complaints I have are 1.) It takes a long time to turn on and off. Go for it I liked this camera out of the box. The software is intuitive, the options varied and I took it to the tide pools right away and got some great super macro shots of marine life underwater.
The detail that came out was amazing. It captured the bubbles coming out of our nose and mouths. It has been about 3 months and now the camera won't even turn on. I'm sending it back to Olympus, we will see, I researched "Tough" Cameras for a few months before I made my purchase.
I ended up returning it and buying a Nikon s8100 for about the same price. The pic and video/audio quality is fine and I'm happy with it.
I need more zoom distance for all the scenic views. Had my first spill in the Kayak and the camera did not pass the test of being water proof. I recently had the chance to use it at the pool with my family and I was scared at first because of some other reviews but I took it in anyways. It worked great and we got some amazing under water shots. I really like the Olympus tough series, but am hesitant to try another camera of this model. Any thoughts on this or recommend a different model or brand"
The first was a 7mp that unfortunately went missing. I purchased these cameras to carry with me pretty much full time when I'm out and about so I'll not miss a "photo of opportunity."
I followed the guide given with the camera to help maintain and check for the waterproof feature and water got behind the screen and inside the lens.
