Faux Fur Throw A Beautiful And Practical Winter Blanket

By Jose Morris

There is very little on the earth more soft, warm or beautiful than real fur. Since the earliest stirrings of human tribes, animal skins have been utilized to stay warm and cozy in wintertime. Skins have been used as clothes and blankets for many millennia. The modern counterpart of this extremely practical and comfortable cover is a faux fur throw.

Many big cats and bears are now endangered with few breeding pairs in the wild. Slaughter of animals for their skins is abhorrent to many and owning a real fur blanket or coat carries a stigma in many societies. Thankfully, modern fibers can recreate the gorgeous colors and textures without needless hunting or farming animals for their pelts.

Whether you prefer the pure beauty of polar white or the funky style of a leopard print, imitation fur can look and feel just as good as the real thing. Synthetic fibers emulate the natural hair and create the same amount of warmth with the same soft feel. Such a fabric can be used to cover a couch to make it warm and snuggly in wintertime. While cord is hard-wearing, it does not invite you to cuddle up, the same way as leather is practical but not as soft as a furry blanket.

The numerous ranges on offer are even more wide than nature itself can provide. Pink leopards might not exist in reality, but if you really want the pattern of a leopard and want to match your curtains or cushions then there are firms that can fulfill your every wish. Many firms offer a wide range of patterns, colors and sizes to suit every conceivable need. You might be searching for a coverlet for your couch, a blanket for a queen size bed or possibly something for your dog or cat to keep them snug and cozy too.

Even just a quick look on the internet will bring up a number of ranges on offer and give you a guideline for costs. Many of the manufacturers and retailers ship overseas so check costs for shipping when working out the final price. While most sizes are available to suit standard beds or couches, there are also manufacturers who can make your cover bespoke so you will get exactly the shade, size and pattern you want.

As well as the large variety of colors and patterns, the backing fabric for your cover can also vary widely. Some have a backing of the finest satin or soft cottons, while some others have the durable more suede-type fabric. Take the time to work out where you will make use of your purchase and if it will need cleaning regularly.

The absolute ultimate in comfort and warmth is to have a throw which is double-sided. These can be manufactured using the same faux fur on both sides or a complementary one. You could select a leopard print for one side and a plainer chinchilla style for the other side. It is worth noting though that just like the natural counterpart the manmade fabric is quite heavy so when you double the furs, you also double the weight of the finished cover.

After you have your luxurious covering you will at some point need to have it cleaned. Dry cleaning is recommended in many cases, but some fabrics can be hand or even machine washed on a gentle setting. If you are buying the product for a pet bed then you may wish to select one that can be put in the washer when needed.
