The Increasing Love For Miniature Works Of Art

By Aaron Scotch

Miniature art is a genre of art that is tiny. In the western world, these were mostly introduced as pictures highlighting the ancient manuscripts. They were mostly scenes from everyday life, the bible or portraits of saints and angels.

Artists of miniature art began to paint for the high-society after the press came into existence. These tiny paintings would be carried around much like you would carry a picture of your beloved or family as they were tiny enough to fit into your palm.

The art follows great level of detail and some fundamental principles on color and composition variations, but can be painted on a variety of surfaces and materials.

Miniature art varies in size from 5x7 inches to 11x14 inches. However professional standards are set to be 5x7 inches.

Although, quite contrary to all that has been said earlier, some experts say that the origin of the term "miniature" does not come from size, but from the term "minimum" depicting the red lead paint used in the manuscripts and Latin word used to say "color with red lead". So these paintings can be of any size even as large as murals.

There are several reasons why they are popular. One of them being that it is convenient to use the smaller ones, as they fit in small spaces or walls without giving a congested look. Several small miniatures may also be used together instead of one large painting.

One other reason why miniature art is preferred is because they're not heavily priced like other larger paintings and those who appreciate original art may have the pleasure of owning one without investing huge amounts in it.

Decorating your home or office with miniatures would probably bring in the added charm of a lost era to your home or office. Giving them away as gifts is also a great idea as they're suitable for anyone from friends to colleagues and landlords!
