What To Include In Nappy Cakes

By Bertie Smith

Nappy cakes are a beautiful and practical gift for someone who is having a baby. Not only do they look stunning but they contain lots of practical items that can be used when the baby arrives. All the little presents you buy are presented in the shape of a tiered cake. They can be expensive to buy but you may be able to put one together yourself much more cheaply.

The diaper cakes structure is made up of nappies. You should choose newborn sizes for practicality. You will need to tightly roll them and bind them together to form the outside of a circle. Different size circles will need to be made and you will need to decide how many tiers you wish to put together.

Once you have made the outside of each tier you can begin to fill it with the other gifts. A nice and useful gift is some babies vests. These should be rolled tightly and packed together to form a base for the bottom of each tier. Choose colors that match the overall scheme of your gift.

In addition to vests you might like to include hats, socks, muslin cloths, bibs and any other soft clothing that is easy to roll up. Again make sure that the colors work together and avoid items that have special washing instructions as a new mum will not have time to worry about this. A first pair of shoes can also be a nice gift to place in one of the tiers.

You can fill some of the tiers with toiletries for baby bath time. The best toiletries are nappy cream, baby bath, wipes and cotton wall. Do not forget to make the gift fun by adding toys, like rubber ducks to play with at bath time.

Once all of the tiers have been filled in your nappy cakes you will need to decorate the whole thing. Ribbons are pretty and they can also help to hold the shape of the nappies together. Finish it off with a cute teddy bear on top.
