The Unorthodox Profession Of A DJ

By Ines Brennan

DJs can be very popular people. They make their living by providing people with music, one of the simplest pleasures of life. The job can also be quite glamorous, with many people going on to fame and fortune, working with top recording artists and what not. It may not be a traditional job, but it is very interesting. Perhaps a closer look at what it means to be an Orlando DJ will make things even more so.

Take note that there are several environments where a disc jockey can thrive in. Some prefer being in a live event, but some can be more suited towards radio. It is quite common to hear a disc Jockey playing some hit new song in your local radio station.

One very popular medium for a disc jockey to practice his craft is the radio. A radio DJ plays songs on the radio all day in addition to hosting his or her own program. Fan interaction is also to be expected due to the many callers and song request that can be received on any given day.

Events such as wedding parties and other local functions are also in need of disc jockeys. For those gigs, certain equipment are needed to get the job done right. Essentials include a lot of CDs, turntables and mixers.

The performance part is just a fraction of the job. There are many qualifications in order to be considered good. Qualifications like a good deal of knowledge about the different genres, knowledge on current trends and hits in the music industry, competent communication skills and much, much more comprise a good DJ.

Once a DJ has further established his or her own career, the better the perks get. Word travels fast about skilled and entertaining individuals. Favors and compliments, for a lack of a better description, will be thrown your way and it can also lead to better opportunities.

So far, all that has been given are reasons why one should take up the profession. However, the reality is, there are just as many reasons not to, if you look hard enough. In this world, pragmatism can help sort through a lot of unrealistic and high expectations. On one hand, fame and money can be yours if a certain level is attained after years of hard work.

There are also harsh realities to the job as well. Those who aspire to do this cannot expect a high amount of income at first. In fact, it would be wise to have a day job, considering very few are actually able to support themselves by doing this job alone. The skills needed for the job can also be demanding and cannot be learned overnight. A lot of time and dedication has to be put into this effort.

Overall, the job can be extremely fun and profitable if done right. If done wrong, it may end up as a complete waste of time and money. A successful Orlando DJ knows how to get things through, however. Enough to survive and enough to make it big. All the answers are out there for your consideration. Now make the right moves and keep the dream alive.
