The Celebrated Veteran Richard Overton And His Origin

By Eloise Hewitt

The veteran is one of the few living individuals that took part in the Second World War.Richard Overton was born in 1906 in Texas, a place he has lived many years after he left the military.

The centenarian served in the army during the Second World War 11 and vividly remembers the horrors of the war and having seen many of his comrades die in the same war.He sensationally describes the war as horrible and recalls with profound joy their excitement upon coming back home from the battlefield . It however does not skip his mind the amount of sacrifice and commitment it took them to go back. The centenarian says it took both a mental and physical preparedness to go back. He however has no regrets for joining the army.

In past few days, Overton has been a busy man, appearing in different places across the country. Meeting high profile persons has been part of his experience. He had an unique privilege to meet president Obama in the white house during the veterans day. The president lauded him for his role in the war. For him this was a dream come true since he had longed for this opportunity. Also among his encounters is with the governor of Texas.

It however remains unclear whether this centenarian was part of the battalion attacked on that fateful day. The words of president Obama and the information by US today lead to the conclusion that he saw all that happened at the Pearl Harbor. Evidence of the same however is not sufficiently available.

After his departure from the military, Overton took up a job at a furniture store and later on joined the department of treasury in Texas. His attention on the internet is attributed to his revelation that he would smoke cigars and drink whiskey-stiffened coffee during his memorial day. He however remains cognisant of the fact that a number of people would want to do something special for him during this day, but maintains that how he would love to spend the Memorial Day.

Despite his old age, Richard did not lack advice for the young people during award section in recognition of his service by Austin mayor. The centenarian advises that they should not spend virtually all their time sitting glued to the television but rather get moving. Austin mayor praised him as an extraordinary gentleman.

Surprisingly, despite being one hundred and seven years, Mr. Richard can drive and comfortably walk around. In fact he generally appears healthy. This longevity, he says, is out of ensuring physical fitness and also taking whiskey.

Interestingly, despite his age, Mr. Overton can engage in numerous physical activities such as driving, walking without a cane and looks healthy. He attributes this to being physically active and taking whiskey. This memorial is however a departure from the previous memorials he has enjoyed. Most of his friends have passed on including a long time confidant and a member of his platoon. Richard wishes that at least one of them was still alive. This has occasionally made him feel lonely. Despite being married for twice, Richard has had no children and has been a widower for 22 years.
