Mayweather vs. Ortiz

By Smith Tylor

Victor Ortiz is not afraid of what could happen in his fight with Mayweather Jr. Ortiz is ten years younger than Mayweather and has the strength to stay in the fight from beginning to end. Ortiz has trained very hard to defend this WBC Welterweight Champion against Mayweather.

Smith was a free agent and was one of 100 or so players allowed to sign with the CBA (Chinese Basketball Association). He closed a deal that apparently would make him the highest-paid player in the history of the Chinese Basket ball Association. Smith averaged 12.3 points and 2.2 assists as the Nuggets' sixth man last season. He's been a fan favorite for his 3-point shooting and his electric dunks. However he sometimes upsets coach George Karl for his confusing shot selection.

Jose Lopez broke up Cliff Lee's shutout bid with a solo shot in the ninth inning of Thursday's extra innings loss to the Phillies. Lee had Lopez at 0-2 before the veteran struck one into the left-field seats. He has actually gone deep in three of his last five starts for the Marlins and has six homers over 91 at-bats for them this season. Lee struck out 12 and allowed five hits in nine innings, failing to earn his 17th win.

These players consider that the lockout will last a while, and they prefer to play in the Chinese Basketball Association than wait NBA to start again.

Michael Schwimer (1-0) tossed a scoreless 10th for his first career win. Michael Martinez walked to lead off the 10th against Burke Badenhop (2-2). Howard then lined a 3-1 pitch deep to left-center and Martinez scored easily. Hollywoodsportsbook.com

Junior welterweights: Jessie Vargas (16-0, 9 KOs) vs. Josesito Lopez (29-3, 17 KOs), 10 rounds. This is probably going to be the biggest fight of the year. The 34-year-old Mayweather will face the youthful exuberance of Ortiz. Mayweather is a future Hall of Famer, a five-division champion and one of the greatest fighters of his generation. Ortiz is coming off the best win of his career. This win came in April outpointing Andre Berto and winning a 147-pound belt in an electrifying fight. Even though Ortiz (29-2-2, 22 KOs) is respected for his youth and strength, not many people give him a chance to win. Ortiz is a 5-to-1 underdog, even though the 24-year-old is definitely the best opponent Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs) could have chosen.
