Mormon Females Between The Ages Of 12 and 17 Gain A lot Out Of Belonging To The LDS Young Women Organization

By Jonathan T. Broadwater

The LDS Young Women Club sponsors numerous activities and does many things to fulfill its mission of helping young female members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints become worthy so that they are able to make and, likewise, keep sacred covenants and receive the ordinances of the Temple. Helping form young LDS women since 1869, the organization which was founded by the LDS Church President Brigham Young is close to being the oldest social organization within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Generally speaking, the LDS Young Women Club's membership consists of all of the Mormon Church's females who are from 12 to 17 years old. Adult Mormon women, called Young Women Presidents, lead the organization's members at the congregational level. Most congregations have their young women divide into one of three categories according the teens' ages.

The youngest of the girls and teens are the 12 to 13 year-old Beehives. The Mia Maids and the Laurels are the LDS young women aged respectively from 14 to 15 years of age and 16 to 17 years old. The young women typically meet at least twice weekly, with one of the meetings taking place on Sundays. In fact, most organizations meet at a Mutual at least one weekday evening each week to participate in other Mormon-centered activities and to sometimes meet with the members of the LDS Young Men Organization.

The Sunday meetings are normally the time for praying and hymns. The singing of and listening to LDS hymns is for many one of the most rewarding times of the entire week. Actually, some Mormon gospel singers and artists are so popular that their CDs and albums have sold in the millions. The popularity of these LDS gospel artists is not merely a U.S. phenomenon; a good number of them have had their songs translated into more than 20 languages and have also performed in many other countries.

Some of the singers and their LDS young women music producers even go so far as to sell their CDs at bulk rates along with their sheet music. It is because of the combination of the inspirational manner of the songs themselves and the dedication of the artists and producers that Mormon songs continue to find larger and larger audiences. This music is not just pleasurable, it also helps the LDS Young Women and additional organizations of the church accomplish the things that they would like to do.
