Facts About The Anna Hazare Biography

Anna Hazare was born in 1940 on the fifteenth of January to a family of unskilled laborers. His father was Baburao Hazare and his mother was Laxmi Bai. His parents give him the name of Kisan Bapat Baburao Hazare. He had a total of six siblings including four brothers and two sisters. His aunt who was childless basically raised him so he could achieve some level of education in a different village then Binghar which was where he was born. The Anna Hazare biography is noted by him being on of the most well known social activists in the history of India. He never married, has no possessions, has no money and resides in a temple. He has dedicated himself to helping the society of India.

He became a soldier of the Indian army in 1963. He remained within its service for fifteen years. During his time he was awarded several medals including the Sainya Seva Medal, the Nine Years Long Service Medal, the Sangram Medal, the twenty fifth Independent Anniversary Medal and the Paschimi Star. When he voluntarily retired from service he held the rank of sepoy.

He has always been concerned with developing rural areas of India. He is known for transforming draught ridden areas into ones that are green and enables villagers to thrive. Because of water conservation methods that he developed along with irrigation systems to increase ground water, villages have become self sufficient and have made turnarounds from poverty stricken areas. His work started the ideal village models in India where barren areas known as worst villages are made into thriving areas. In 1992 he was awarded the Padma Bhushan civilian award by the India government for his efforts in establishing a model village for others to strive for.

Another important accomplishment of Hazare is the development of grain banks. Rich farmers would contribute to the bank and poor farmers can borrow in times of need. This system enables villagers to survive times of low crops and drought.

The writing of Swami Vivekananda were very important to Anna and influenced his life. There was a time when he questioned his existence and contemplated suicide. A book written by the Swami gave him a direction to life.

Fasting was one way that he was able to convince the government do make changes. He was able to get the Maharashtra RTI Act signed. In 2006 food abstinence also was influential in getting the government to do away with amendments to the RTI Act.

Hazare uncovered things within the government structure that were criminal and corrupt. He believed that these issues held back the development of the country. He convinced the government to do something again by participating in food abstinence. He also returned the Vriksha Mitra Award and the Padmashree Award to bring attention to his cause. Six ministers offered their resignation along with 400 officials losing their jobs as a result.

The Anna Hazare biography is an interesting story of a man who has spent forty years fighting for social reform. He started within the army of India and used various methods to fight for his causes and help citizens of India use knowledge and hard work to become self sufficient. He has shown how non violent methods can be used to get things done.
