When you talk about portraits, the usual subject would be a person. Usually, the focus of the photograph is the face and the upper body where the emotion is evident. But it can also be a whole body photo, depending on what you want to appear.

If you are someone who is aspiring to be called a photographer, you need to make sure that you have the necessary skills and the talent for it. Framing is one technique you can employ. This is to make the focus of the photos directly to your subject. It does not mean that you are going to edit it and put a frame. You will use every day things or take advantage of the scenery as the frame.

You need to vary your background from time to time. This is because of the fact that your background will be the setting of your entire picture. Although the subject is the focus, you still need to ensure that what is on the back must not be dull. It should be fitted with the picture that you are trying to take. Also, consult with your subject with this.

Just because the vertical type is the one that is usually recognized as portrait does not mean that you have to stick to it as well. Your shots will become limited. And there would be no variety at all. You can also use horizontal angles. There are even diagonal ones that you can take for more character.

There are others who makes the portrait a blur. They mess with the focus settings to achieve this shot. If your subject is aiming for shots that are mysterious or dreamy, this is one of the types that you can go for.

The main goal of these types of pictures is to show the emotion that a person or the people are feeling at the moment. That is why you must do your best to showcase all of it. Although a premeditated pose and smile is the usual go to of your subjects, you should strive to capture emotions that are not readily evident. This will surely showcase the feeling of your subject.
