Finding Your Own DJ Vibe

By Claudia Campos

To those new to this career, learning to amp up your DJ vibe will take a bit of work. While you may love music and playing it, learning to entertain while doing so will take some getting used to. With some practice, you will soon be a pro.

Practice alone in your room, garage or basement. Face a mirror so you can watch yourself. Work on learning to play music and entertain at the same time. While DJs may make it look simple, it really is not. It takes some getting used to. The more time you put in to practice, the better you will become. Remember, those you see at parties and in clubs, probably got their start alone in their room.

Know your audience. You will want to adjust your music according to who you are playing for. If you have the chance to speak to any of the guests ahead of time, ask what music they like. This will give you an idea of what you should play.

Host a few parties for friends and family. This is a great way to practice entertaining a crowd. This will help prepare you for paying gigs. The more you practice, the more comfortable you will be. Being comfortable will enable you to have a better interaction with the crowd.

Be observant. Match your music and style to the audience you have. Notice when they become bored or disinterested and find creative ways to draw them back in.

With some effort and practice, you should soon find your own special DJ Vibe. As you do this more you soon will have a following who enjoys the job you do. Always remember, you goal is to play music and keep the audience entertained.
