Is Discovery's TV Show Really the Number One Show on TV?

By Brock Lindzer

With the series now having finished its second season, a new season of Gold Rush on the Discovery Channel is zealously awaited by millions of fans. Like many of Discovery's new shows, it is a big hit, and they even claim it is now the number one show on television. Can this really be true? Well, it is really the unique content of this particular show that makes it so riveting, and it is enjoyed by so many enthusiasts because of its relevance to their individual dreams and goals.

Gold mining has been a respectable occupation for centuries, but the excitement, hardships, and freedom that come with it have been forgotten by the majority. When gold mining television show suddenly brought it back, millions became instantly addicted and just couldn't get enough. There is just something about the allure of gold, getting your hands dirty, and risking it all that appeals to many, but most people just don't possess the guts to do go out and do it. Or perhaps, they possess more common sense than our beloved stars on Gold Rush on the Discovery Channel.

Discovery's TV show was focused on these few individuals who set out to live their dreams of mining gold in the beautiful Alaskan wilderness. As pioneers of the new age, these rookie gold miners risked it all to do something different and unrelated to the dwindling global economic health. Precious metals will always be a commodity on which one can rely, and what better way to obtain this asset than to dig it out of the ground?

Initially, the miners endured a myriad of trials and tribulations, but could their will and passion carry them through? The adversarial Alaskan weather, equipment failure, mental stress, and financial hardships did nothing to stop these miners from constantly biting the bullet and pulling through. Alaskan gold rush series revealed to America that raw, iron-willed and undeviating entrepreneurship still exists to this day regardless of the prevalent fears associated with the economy and gambles of gold mining.

Todd, with his American spirit burning strong and bright, looked at this setback as just another important part of their trials and tribulations inevitable in such an ambitious journey to strike it rich. The novice, yet strong-willed, gold miner demonstrated his leadership once again as he landed his crew in the Canadian gold-streaked lands known as the Klondike. With the progression of the second season of Discovery's Gold Rush, it appears the luck of the Hoffman crew has finally turned around for the better.
