I Am Very Happy That I Participated In A Color Run

By Sammey M. Osborne

A little while ago, my friend from Utah sent me a fun picture of her and some of her friends covered in bright colored powder and participating in a color run. Before I got that picture in the mail, I had never heard of a color run, but looking at that picture, I was struck with the urge to participate in one. I was so intrigued that I asked my friend what had made her want to participate and she told me the whole story.

Basically, she had been feeling a little blue, and when she commented to her boyfriend about this, he smiled and told her to wait a few days. Even though she tried to draw the secret out of him, he would not tell her what he was up to. Finally, one day, he asked her to put on some light running clothes and get in the car.

The two of them had gone running together before, but she could tell that this time was different and she could barely contain her excitement. Finally, they arrived at their destination and she saw that there was a huge crowd of people gathered. Her boyfriend took her up to the registration table and they got a small packet that included a few various items such as a t-shirt and a number to pin on.

She guessed it was some kind of charity race, and when she saw that it was a 5k run, she was really excited to get a good run in. She got ready, and the race began with everyone running at a good pace, but instead of competition, she discovered that everyone was feeling a sense of happiness and camaraderie. After running a little way, she was delighted to find that the runners were doused with vivid colored powder. It was a bright, happy pink color that was unexpected, but when everyone else started to whoop for pleasure, she joined in.

These surprise showers of color simply kept coming every couple minutes, and each time the powder color would change. By the time the race was finished, she was completely covered in a rainbow of colors, and that's when they took some pictures. After listening to her story, I had an overpowering desire to participate in the color run that was going to be held in my city soon after. The color run was all that I had wished for, and I felt completely pumped up and happy being covered with bright happy colors and surrounded by friendly people.
