Guidelines On How To Enhance Water Safety At Home

By Byron Jonas

Many people assume the only way that they can enhance water safety at home is by treating it when drinking but this is not so. Since water is a basic necessity in all homes you can access it anywhere be it in a pool, bath tub or drainage systems. Therefore one needs to take the following precautionary steps to enhance its safety.

The most vulnerable to contaminated water are children. Therefore, it is up to you to ensure that there is no water stagnating around especially in ditches after the rain. Having a good drainage system will help you in this task. Another, disadvantage of having stagnating pools is the provision of favorable conditions for parasites to inhibit and cause diseases to one's body.

If you have a pool, ensure that it is securely fenced and has locking system which will hinder any unauthorized movement around the pool. A child should not access that area without your supervision. Moreover as a responsible parent you should always accompany you child when going for a swim.

To add on that you should install security alarm around the pool. This will notify you when your child is around the pool or any child of your neighbors. Equipments such as buckets should be kept out of reach and if not in use they should be stored upside down.

If your child knows how to swim, that should not be enough reason to leave him or her around the pool. The child should have protective swimming gears that fully fit. The gears will help to float if it happens that you drown. It is also very important to have basic knowledge on first aid. Having a phone around the pool is also very essential.

Furthermore, the pool should be cleaned on regular basis. This will ensure that the pool has no floating objects that might raise a child's curiosity and follow the object in the pool. Additionally, it is a health measure because it kills any disease causing bacteria. A dirty pool is usually slippery thus increasing the chance of accidents near the pool, which may cause fracture or broken limbs.

To enhance water safety at home, it does not only involve keeping the pool clean. Instead, you should make sure that the toilet and bathroom doors are locked always. You bath tab should be drained after bathing and the toilet lid should be closed especially when not using the toilet. These guidelines will be important for anyone who wants to avoid stress and enhance its safety.
