Bachelor Party Planning

By Chris Hepburn

He followed his bride to be to every flower store, to every cake tasting appointment, through every page of every bridal magazine invented and now it is his turn. Let's face it, a wedding is mostly about one thing; the bride. She is primarily the one who is fulfilling her dreams from when she was a child and making every fantasy come true. And yes, the men enjoy the party that a wedding brings and are fulfilling their dreams by marring the girl that they love but, they are secretly living through it for one thing; the bachelor party.

This is one thing which is all about the groom and bachelor party planning means throwing a party for the groom which gives him a proper send-off into married life. The best man is usually the person who is responsible for planning the bachelor party. The best man is in charge of planning an evening which the groom will thoroughly enjoy, since he is usually the person who knows the groom best.

A traditional part of bachelor parties is either a visit to a local gentlemen's club or a visit from a hired stripper; while there are indeed some men who want, even expect this to be a part of the night's festivities, many others would rather skip this bachelor party clich. As the best man, you probably know whether or not the groom would actually enjoy this and if he's not interested, then there are many, many other things which you can incorporate into a bachelor party which make great alternatives to this bachelor party staple.

If the groom is not likely to be interested in spending the night at a strip club or having an exotic dancer show up at the party, then it's time to look at other ideas. Perhaps an evening of some physical activity to take the edge off of the groom's nerves is in order: rock climbing is a good choice; it's also a great way for the groom to bond with friends. Whatever kind of evening you plan, make sure that transportation is taken care of, especially if you'll be drinking - you may want to consider hiring a car service to make sure everyone gets around safely and is able to enjoy all of the evening's activities.

One of the things that the best man has to figure out as they plan the party is who to invite. Basically, the men from the wedding party should all be invited; the ushers, the bride's father, the groom's father and any other men in the wedding, particularly relations. The bride is herself usually a good source of information on this, since she's much more likely to be up to speed on the details of the wedding; she'll probably also appreciate you not taking her husband to be along for certain activities. As the best man, it's your responsibility to keep the groom out of trouble - and your duty as a friend to both the groom and the bride. Another thing to think about is who will cover the expenses for the bachelor party. One of the groom's relatives may offer to foot the bill, but unless this is the case the cost should be shared by all of the attendees; with the exception of the groom of course.

Planning a bachelor party doesn't have to be that difficult - just do your duty as the best man and make sure that the groom enjoys himself.
