All About Venetian Masquerade Masks

The town of Venice in Italy forms the origin of Venetian masquerade masks. This was back in the thirteenth century. The practice the led to the adoption of this culture came about because of the locals wearing then during carnival festivals. Although the available technology was not advanced, the people were able to document the carnival and show it to other locals.

Before attending the carnivals, the locals had to purchase and wear the appropriate face cover. The purpose of these covers was to hide the identity of people attending the party. This fact was important since it enhanced mingling among the attendants. Nobody was able to identify anybody especially in terms of social status. This practice has been present through the centuries.

For people of the opposite sex, the parties was a great opportunity to express what they felt for each other. The good thing was that, no one could be able to identify the other, during and even after the party. With the idea of a hidden identity, these people could say their most honest thoughts and express their love without any fear.

Even though the thirteenth century was a long time ago, the people had a strong sense of creativity and art. As such, they were able to create face covers that had complex designs and structures. The same thing is evident currently. These items do have bright colors that are accented with gold and silver. The people responsible for making these products made them in different shapes and sizes. This ensured that individuals could find their most appropriate sizes.

Ranging from plasters to paper and leather, the materials used to make the above items vary depending on availability or personal preference. The production of these products was entirely done by hand. For enhancement to make them have a definite shape one can use jewels or fabric trims.

Apart from the Bauta and Columbina that mean full-face and eye masks respectively, there are other types of these items. The other types include the Moretta, Volto and Medico Della Della Peste. The other versions also include the ones with long noses. Particularly, this last example is still common in major events. In order to inform you how famous these face covers are, Hollywood actors have worn them while shooting their films.

Tradition and elegance characterize these products. These two features have been around for the longest time. Many people like wearing these face covers since they bring a sense of class and uniqueness. Attending a party while wearing one will surely turn heads.

Thanks to the sense of fashion, elegance and uniqueness of Venetian masquerade masks, they have remained relevant for a long time. A practice that started by wearing these face covers has become a culture. People from other areas of the world have also embraced this practice. It is not rare to find people in present parties wearing these products.
