Extreme Sports Gear For Protection

By Amanda Baird

Outdoor activities have gained a lot of popularity in the last two decades thanks to mass media and marketing efforts of game companies. Living the ordinary life, working a nine to five job continuously is bound to take the life out of many individuals. Outdoor activities have thus come up to provide thrill to adrenaline junkies and give a second chance at life to many individuals. In order to participate in some games, one requires extreme sports gear.

The head is one of the most important body parts since it houses the brain. Considering the nature of outdoor games, it is necessary to shelter this vital body part. Helmets are worn by players over their heads to save them from injury and trauma to the head. While it may not be the most attractive protective apparatus, looks are a small price to pay in exchange for the shelter offered by a helmet. This protective kit is used in nearly all sports including; skating, cycling, skiing, motor cross, rally driving and sky diving.

Knees and elbows are common victims during falls and outdoor injuries. It is only the normal body reaction to land on knees and elbows thus protecting other sensitive body parts. As a result of this, knees and elbows are constantly exposed to injuries. This creates the need to wear knee pads and elbow pads. Shin and calf guards are also important accessories to various sportsmen. Other than the unattractive bruised body parts, injuries to knees and elbows may result in paralysis.

The common feature between cyclists, bikers, weight lifters, rally drivers and skiers is their use of hand gloves. These are equipment that fit into the wrists and fingers and offer protection. During falls, pushing your hands out to reduce impact is a natural reaction. This however puts hands in the way of harm on many occasions. Gloves protect the fingers and wrists from injury during falls.

Gloves are also used in many other instances. For example, they can be used to reduce friction and provide better grip on handle bars for cyclists. Gloves offer protection from frostbite and cold to skiers and better grip on skiing rods.

The eyes are sensitive body organs that are easily injured or irritated by chemicals, allergens or injuries. It is for this reason that many swimmers and high velocity sportsmen don protective eye wear. Swimmers and divers use goggles to protect their eyes from chlorine, cleaning chemicals and salty underwater environment. High velocity gamers use sunglasses to improve their vision at high speed.

Investing in proper footwear is a prerequisite for individuals who desire to participate in outdoor games. There are many kinds of shoes depending on the type of activity that one intends to participate. Shoes are not only a protective feature but also a statement of fashion and functionality. Companies that specialize in manufacturing sports equipment spend a lot of resources in designing shoes that fit each individual game and optimize performance.

Participation in games is an important way to exercise both our minds and bodies. However, individuals must embrace the use of protective extreme sports gear to ensure their own safety. There are many forms of specialized clothing and gear meant to protect the lives of individuals who seek fun and adventure through sports.
