Different Tactics On Getting Rid Of Pigeons

By Mary D. Daniels

Who would think a bird could cause so many problems. There is one that can invade your property and be a nuisance. Getting rid of pigeons is an advantage because they carry things like ticks, mites, and fleas. The droppings are unsightly and can take the paint off a car or building.

The first thing you should do is make sure your buildings are tightly sealed. The birds cannot infest any area they cannot make access to. Look around your property for an opening in the rafters, awnings, or attics. These birds love out of the way areas, so be sure and seal off anything that could be used as an entry.

There are different things you can use that will act as a repellent to these birds. The idea behind them is to make your building unfriendly to the pigeons. Spike strips will stop the birds from roosting because they are uncomfortable. The strips can be purchased online or at most hardware stores.

Talk to a pest control owner. They can provide you with chemicals that will make the birds feet stick or burn. Both would be nice in ridding the area of these flying, feathered pests.

If you happen to be a do-it-yourself kind of person you may want to try some home made products. The birds don't like water so a sprinkler would deter them. A bit of electrified wiring would make them most unhappy and they would beat a hasty retreat. A scarecrow made to look like an owl, a cat, or a snake will deter them too.

If you should be looking into some kind of ultrasonic invention, save your money. They simply do not work at getting rid of anything let alone pigeons. If all else fails and you have been thinking about using a lethal means to get rid of them, the local authorities will let you know what you can and cannot use.
