Christmas Play

By Yvonne Brixey

A Christmas play can be a great way to celebrate the season and bring friends and family together. Putting together a Christmas play takes a lot of work and time, but will be worth it after the performance. There are several things you need to take into account before planning to perform a Christmas play. Some of the factors include which play do you want to perform, who do you want to be in your play, and where are you going to get props and sets as well as who is going to help build the sets.

Choosing a Christmas play may be the hardest part because there are so many to choose from. Some of those include The Nativity Story, A Christmas Carol, and anything else that is suggested. When you have decided on the actual Christmas play to use, you can start on the cast. This can include your family, your friends or kids at the local elementary school. If you want it to be more professional than kids then you can post an ad online for some actors who are willing to help you with a Christmas play.

A Christmas Carol would be a good Christmas play if you want it to be more professional and done by actors, but it may be hard to get them to do it for free and it may be hard to find a flexible cast. That is why family or children are sometimes the best cast to use for a Christmas play. They are willing to do it for free and are willing to help you with all they can. The best play for children to do may be the Nativity Story. They are sweet and innocent so they are often the best option to depict the birth of Christ.

Building the interior set is not hard, but is time consuming. If you get all the actors and as many volunteers as possible the sets could be built a lot quicker. Christmas is a time of coming together and celebrating the time of year, and a great way to do this is to help each other with the Christmas Play. Starting with the script, come up with simple interior sets from the different scenes of the play. Children will love to help with anything they can in creating the Christmas play. Although they will need someone to help them, most children are fairly capable if they are told exactly what to do.

Remember the true meaning of Christmas when preparing the Christmas play. It is not about being perfect or impressing anyone. It is about spending time together and serving one another during the Christmas season. I know can be hard to remember when everything is falling apart, but if you continue to tell yourself that it does not matter, then you will be able to laugh off the frustrating things. Try to create positive memories for everyone involved, not negative memories where they are going to regret being involved with the Christmas play. The key to a successful Christmas play is a positive attitude. Everyone involved needs to remember to keep a positive attitude, even though it can be tough when frustrating things happen.
