Selecting A Beer Pong Table

By Derek Reed

Drinking games are a popular pastime for many party enthusiasts, and the right beer pong table can provide the perfect forum for an exciting evening of fun. As more and more people have become enamored of this game, the search for quality tables has intensified. Having the right tables for the game can help any host to avoid having to provide homemade constructs that seldom meet everyone's expectations.

This game is an easy one to learn, since it contains none of the drawbacks inherent in other drinking games. Let's face it; bar dice requires math skills, the game of darts requires a steady hand, and pool entails a familiarity with geometry. On the other hand, all that is needed to play beer pong is the right type of ball, a solid playing surface, plastic cups, beer, and a willingness to drink alcohol.

That does not mean, however, that the surface of the tables is unimportant. Many players are disappointed when they encounter tables at parties that fail to resemble the ones they are used to seeing. By paying attention to the basics, any host can ensure that he has the perfect tables available for the guests at his party.

The size

Size is an essential characteristic of the boards. There are even standard sizes that are required for tournament usage and league play. Often times, buyers simply choose to purchase these common sizes to ensure that they are able to remain consistent in their play. For professional tables, the regulation sizes are two feet by eight feet. For those who are open to other sizes, tables can range from six to nine feet long.

The board surface

Many of the highest quality tables come with all of the necessary playing elements clearly marked on the surface of the boards. These include the midway point that all bounces must pass, as well as the location of both foul lines. Aside from those features, the field itself can feature almost any color or design imaginable. There are tables designed like football fields, those with patriotic themes, and a dizzying array of colors.

The vendor

It is important to buy from the right vendor if one wants to locate a quality board. Some of the lesser quality tables can be located at shops geared toward party favors, but most regular players want something of a higher quality. For these players, it is wise to search through the many options available over the internet, since many of the best tables are sold by online companies.

When reviewing any tables, it is important to keep in mind what they are designed to do. Tables should be portable, with folding or removable legs for easy storage or transport. They should also be durable, since they have to stand up to repeated usage, as well as the more than occasional instances of spilled beer.

Still, nothing is more important than the notion that these tables should be fun for everyone involved. When buyers focus on the fun factor, they will have a much easier time finding a beer pong table that fits their unique style preferences while still providing the surface needed for endless hours of exciting play.
