Best MP3 Players for Under $50

By Matt Pierson

The short answer is yes. As long as you have reasonable expectations for what you'll be able to get when shopping for an MP3 Player under $50 I think you'll be fine. The key thing to keep in mind is that you aren't going to be getting all the bells and whistles that something like an iPod Touch has but you can certainly get a respectable MP3 Player that plays music (with no video), and probably also has a built in radio, for that price. If you're really wanting to stick with the iPod branding your only option in that price range will be a iPod Shuffle which is quite nice and comes with a descent set of headphones, but is very bare bones and basic.

What are the top choices for an MP3 Player under $50?

The SanDisk Sansa Clip models are a great option for the sub-$50 price point. You can usually find them at Amazon for around $35. As the name implies they come with a built-in clip and are also small and light weight. This device is small but does include a screen you can use to navigate your music collection and playlists unlike the iPod Shuffle.

Another option which is often available at around $20 is the Coby MP620. The Coby comes with a built-in FM Radio, though overall the SanDisk is a slightly higher quality mp3 player.

You can often find the Philips GoGear Vibe 8 GB models running a discount that puts them under the $50 price. It's a nice mp3 player, especially compared to many other off-brand options in this price range.

MP3 Player for Kids under $50

When looking at mp3 players for kids under $50 you could always stick with one of the models covered above or something similar, but those may not be durable enough to survive a younger kid. If you go up about $10-$20 in price range there are some options in the market that are much better suited to a young child like the SweetPea3 or the Discover Kids MP3 Player.
