Brighten Up Race Time At The Color Run

By Debra Z. Hardeman

People get involved in the Color Run each year because they are looking for something other than a normal race. With more than 25 different racing places, people from all over can participate in the race all through the year. Not only is the racer's day made extra colorful and pleasurable, but a local charity will also benefit from the race. Individuals can either run in the race or volunteer to be a part of the crew. In either case, participants are sure to have a bright colored day.

On the day of the race, people will show up sporting their white shirts and bright smiles. The runners may run as fast as they can as they take off from the starting line. Through every leg of the race they will be attacked with a color, and their shirts will no longer be white. Their white shirts will now adorn yellow, blue, purple, green, and pink colors as they have colored corn starch thrown at them all through the competition. Since there is no way to control where the corn starch will land, it is recommended that runners wear sunglasses or other protective eyewear.

For people who aren't interested in running but still want to participate, they can sign up as volunteers. After all, the racers will need a person to get all of that color on them. Colored corn starch is tossed at the racers by the handful as they pass by the volunteers throughout the race. Since they don't get to run in the race, volunteers can get rid of some of their anger and frustrations by throwing colors and having fun in exchange. Volunteers will get a special t-shirt for participating, but they will not be compensated for the work that they do. A local charity will receive a part of the proceeds from the racer registration for the event.

Once racers have finished the 5K run and crossed the finish line, they will continue to bombard each other with colored corn starch in celebration. People can make a whole day out of the event since food and music will be available once the race is over. You don't have to participate in the race or volunteer to go to the celebration. Individuals from all over are welcome to attend.

The Color Run is sure to brighten anyone's day and make running a race a fascinating experience. There is bound to be one near you since there are more than 25 various cities in the US participating throughout the year. You will be able to enjoy some great food and music, and spend the rest of the day with your friends and fellow racers after being covered in colored corn starch from head to toe.
