Decorative Artwork Adds An Attractive Perspective

By Celia Ayers

Decorative artwork can be broadly defined as art that has been designed for decorative purposes rather than for a deeper level of exploration. There are different kinds of artists whose talent is focused on a specific genre of art. Some are constantly exploring new avenues of expression while others produce easy to look at art that does not require much concentration to view.

There are many venues where decorative artwork can be found. One place where it can easily be viewed is on greeting cards. Artists are hired by greeting card companies to provide a generic brand of art that will appeal to most consumers. The designs must be non-threatening and suit the theme of the message the card is being purchased for.

The generic presentation typically cannot be categorized under any one description. It can be realistic or even abstract. It can be figurative where it depicts people and animals or it can even be photography.

Decorative art is also incorporated into sportswear since so many new sports categories have been created since sportswear was first created. Snowboarders for instance have their own group of artists who have art specifically geared towards snowboarding. The words and their font is also designed by artists so that the words will provide an artistic slant as well.

Today's consumers prefer to have artwork on their garments since it is a reflection of the kind of self expression they want to exhibit. Our society feels more free about self expression in this manner than it did fifty year's ago so many artists have found a new opportunity to create. Artwork has even found its way into a plethora of tattoos and unusual renderings of makeup and haircuts and colors so that many more people can redefine how they want to appear.

We also see much more art in public places such as airports, subway and bus stations and fast food restaurants. Art provides an artist's viewpoint on the world and whether or not we share in the same viewpoint, exposure to it causes us to stop and take a look. It provides a visually appealing relief for the eyes from the hectic world that we are living in.

Art in these public places can take the form of mosaics, sculpture, and installations to name a few. Sometimes even a simple mobile with geometric shapes is enough to provide an appealing decorative effect in a public facility. Art that moves provides hours of viewing pleasure since the viewer will always be looking at something different.

Children's art is also attractive in such venues as hospitals where patients respond positively to bright colors. Cheerful art adds a cheeriness to an environment which would otherwise be sterile and depressing. Often the majority of the public does not make the time to go to see art but when the art comes to them they will feel the benefits.

Decorative artwork is welcome almost anywhere. It can be found on clothing, indoor and outdoor venues, clothing and greeting cards. Viewers benefit form seeing the world through the eyes of an artist and this is often a very new and interesting invitation to a journey. Art makes the world a more beautiful and positive place.
