Some Reasons To Purchase An Air Purifier For Nail Salon Use

By Leslie Mitchell

Owners of salons might notice that a lot of dust builds up inside as well as noticing some strong chemical odors. These things are unpleasant for staff and customers to experience and can even lead to health problems in some cases. At least there is a simple solution to this problem though - an air purifier for nail salon use.

Many women, and also men in some cases, get a lot of enjoyment from having their nails professionally done at a salon. In some cases these customers arrive alone and in others they come with one or more friends. Irrespective of how they come, customers can easily be made to leave the salon in a hurry if they are subjected to chemical odors and a dusty environment.

Because of the way they operate, salons are often situated inside a mall or other closed area and have limited space inside. Due to this it can be hard to ventilate the inside of the shop. Even if air is brought in from outside it will not usually remove all of the dust and odors.

During the process of filing and shaping nails dust is created. Some of this dust is the actual nail material that is filed away and some comes from tools used, like emery boards, which shed fine particles. This fine dust can easily give the place an unhygienic look and can also irritate the eyes or make breathing hard for customers and staff.

To remove old polish and apply acrylic nails, technicians must use products that contain chemicals that have been known to cause medical symptoms like; irritated, watery or burning eyes, headaches, dizziness, coughing, nausea, nose and throat irritation, shortness of breath, and lethargy (lack of energy). Some of the chemicals that may be contained in these products are; Acetone ammonia, toluene, ethanol, formaldehyde, polymethyl methacrylate, titanium dioxide, ethyl methacrylate, and methacrylic acid. To keep the environment healthy and pleasant for customers and nail technicians the odors and fumes these chemicals cause must be removed.

Usually, air purifiers are fitted with a HEPA (High Efficiency Particle Arresting) filter. These filters are designed to clear the air of fine particulate matter like dust, lint and fluff. Generally particles bigger than 0.3 microns will be removed from the air by a HEPA filter, note that a micron is 1 25,000 or an inch.

Another type of filter that is usually contained inside an air purifier is one that acts as a trap for chemically caused odors. Provided the filters are changed on a regular basis this type of filter is usually very effective. Substances like carbon zeolite and potassium iodide are used in the making of these filters because they are good at absorbing odors.

There are many types of air purifier for nail salon use available. Weigh up the pros and cons of each type before making the final decision about which one to buy for your salon. The right type of purifier will really make your salon a much more pleasant and healthy place to be.
