Brighten Up Your Year With A Simpsons Calendar

By Steven Harrison

It's that time of the year when you need to wind up 2012 and start getting ready for 2013. To do this, you need a way to know on which days of the week certain dates fall and of course when the holidays are. A fun way to brighten up your day is to have a Simpsons calendar on your desk or wall.

Everyone's favorite dysfunctional family has been around since 1987. Matt Groening created The Simpsons as a series of cartoon inserts for 'The Tracy Ullman Show'. The voice-over cast included Tracy Ullman regulars Dan Castellaneta and Julie Kavner, who provided the voices of Homer and Marge respectively. Nancy Cartwright is responsible for Bart's quips, while Lisa is played by Yeardley Smith. These actors, along with Hank Azaria and Harry Shearer, also provide the voices for many other characters.

Viewers of 'The Tracy Ullman Show' loved the cartoon inserts and in 1989 'The Simpsons' became a separate prime-time series. Over the years a host of celebrities guest starred on the show. For instance, Jodie Foster and James Earl Jones were just two of the actors who made the noises Maggie makes when she's sucking on her pacifier. Many stars appeared as animated versions of themselves too. The show has made American television history by becoming the sitcom, animation series and scripted prime-time show with the longest run. It has also won a bevy of awards.

Matt Groening's dysfunctional but well-loved family has also inspired a variety of merchandise. Their images can be found on board games, T-shirts and many other items. Some of the official merchandise include year planners in different formats.

There is a slimline calendar full of hilarious quotes and cartoons that you can use to plan your week or month. An item that has become very popular is the bigger Fun Calendar. The latest theme for this publication is travel, with the Simpson family visiting places like India and Australia. Another almanac that you might like is one that has been personalized, listing the information that you've specified.

To brighten up your work space, there is a mini almanac for your wall. If you don't feel like getting up to check dates, you can get a desk version for everyday use instead. The quips and incredibly funny images will make your days at the office fly past.

A great way to help your significant other remember appointments and important dates like your birthday is to share the 'His and Hers' edition featuring Homer and Marge. Otherwise, invest in a spiral-bound daily planner or the family planner. The latter has space for five family members to write down their appointments and keep track of one another's whereabouts.

You can find your Simpsons calendar for 2013 at various online stores and at selected stationers in your area. Once you have one, you may find that it provides you with so much entertainment that you need more. Luckily it is possible to buy previous editions online in less time it takes to say Homer's catchphrase 'Doh!', since these items have become popular with collectors.
