How An Audiophile Speaker Cable Differs From Standard Wires

By Kendra Ware

For consumers with little experience and enthusiasm about sound systems, cables aren't given much thought during set up. In contrast, those who place particular importance on their sound quality usually have a strong opinion about cables. An audiophile speaker cable enhances sonic power and definition to improve the sound speakers generate.

There are no perfect cables for every system. Product synergy will determine which brands are best for each system and speaker. Products are only able to excel when they are used with the systems the brand recommends them for. It's thus important to read about designer approved system context before purchasing cables.

Many people prefer to set up a combination of product types so that they have a mixture that varies the sonic signatures. High end cables are not the products of choice for all audiophiles. Some swear that low end products are superior. Costly wires do, however, often come with cash back guarantees in which clients may return the product if they don't find it to be superior.

Most consumers need a lengthy period of listening time to determine the real sound difference generated by high end products. It's best to listen to the cable's effects over a period of days to ascertain the true differences in sound. People with inferior entertainment systems cannot benefit from all the enhancements generated by high end products, as their lower quality amplifiers and speakers won't be able to deliver high definition sound.

Consumers who own high end entertainment systems demand sound precision and high definition at every frequency. The frequencies pertaining to base, treble and sound stage need to be supported by the cables chosen. High definition base and clear treble can be influenced greatly by the quality of cables used.

Some wires product a different soundstage to others, and consumers often differ about the type of sound they prefer. Some enjoy a holographic experience whilst others enjoy an organic sound. Product reviews appear contentious because of these differences in preference. Consumer reviews become less confusing when one looks for reviewers who have a similar sound preference to the client.

Many audiophiles hand pick each of their sound system's components, including the wires. High grade cables need to be designed to cope with the full wattage of the speakers, or the sound will be degraded. Audiophile standards vary from standard wire in that their products transmit more defined, enhanced sound. There are no standard features for such cables. Their only similarity is that their performance is enhanced.

Many believe that solid copper wire delivers a better sound quality. It enhances the treble and base and some products also eliminate noise generated from the television and speakers. Foil shielding is typically used to achieve this. There are high end cables especially developed for subwoofers. They are developed specifically to enhance a certain frequency.

Outdoor speakers often need longer wires and custom installation. In this case, wires are developed in a way that allows them to resist the weather and work well beneath crawl spaces and under soil. An audiophile speaker cable doesn't change the way the speakers perform. Instead, it enhances the sound they deliver for a superior sonic experience.
