By Stephanie Wales

One thing that people from different cultures share in common is the celebration of weddings. But despite this common observance of weddings, it cannot be denied that each culture and race has its distinct ways of celebrating a wedding. This is why it is understandable when bridal couples may not be aware of all the practices they should observe before, during, and after the wedding. But of course they can always spend time knowing the basic and most important wedding etiquettes.

An important wedding etiquette that engaged couples should not miss doing is the formal announcement of their engagement. After informing the parents of the engaged couple and getting their approval, the next thing to do is to inform everyone they know about this news. This is usually done by publishing it on newspaper. Other options that bridal couples have today include sending the announcement via email or by holding an engagement party.

When a bridal couple chooses the traditional means of public announcement, they should ask the feature or society editor regarding their policies on this matter. Normally, this kind of public announcement are published three to six months before the date of the wedding.

Traditionally, the bride's parents are the ones who take charge of the public announcement. The information that is found in this kind of announcement includes the names of the engaged couple and of their parents', as well as their permanent addresses, and the date of the wedding.

Engaged couples may also choose to have an engagement portrait printed just below the announcement. Engagement portraits used to show only a picture of the bride. But modern practices allows for the bride and the groom to be photographed together for their engagement portrait.

Obviously, bridal couples need the service of a professional photographer who deals with wedding photography or more specifically, bridal photography. These types of wedding photographers are already familiar of the ins and outs of photographing engagement portraits. Thus, couples can be guaranteed that they'll make the right pose for this kind of photograph or get the kind of photography style that's right for their personality.
