Singapore Passport Photo Requirements

By Larry Bent

Every country requires strict adherence to the rules they set for official government-issued records, including the photos submitted with the forms. This is also true in Singapore. The Southeast Asian country requires passport applicants to adhere to the picture standards set by the Singapore Passport Agency. Any minor change from the standard can result to the application rejection. So if you are applying for a Singapore passport, prevent rejection by following the picture instructions exactly, or have a professional photographer take your photo since they know how to take a Singapore passport photo.

Singapore uses 3.5 centimetre x 4.5 centimetre standard passport photo size, which is the same as the size used in Britain, Australia, Italy, and some Asian countries. You would need to submit two copies of borderless photos in sharp and clear matte or semi-matte texture. You can also submit a digital copy of the photo in a CD, which needs to be in JPEG format with 514x400 pixel and not above 60KB.

Make sure you are looking straight into the camera and your eyes are wide open when taking a passport picture. Your head should be upright and the whole of your head and the top of your shoulders must be visible, with your face placed in the middle and measuring 2.5 centimetres x 2.5 centimetres from crown to the chin. Any facial feature that you have, such as moles, birthmarks, or tattoos, should be seen and not altered in the photo.

Take off your hat or any headgear in the photo, unless you wear them habitually for religious, racial, or cultural customs. And if you do, make sure that it doesn't obstruct your face in any way. You can also wear eyeglasses if you usually wear them, but its frame shouldn't obscure your eyes and its lens shouldn't catch reflection from the flash. Sunglasses and other tinted lenses are not allowed. Take the photo against plain white backdrop, but if your hair colour or headwear is in the same shade, you can use a slightly grey backdrop.

passport photo singapore requirements, which are the same as the visa photo requirements, are very exacting. Any deviation from the standards given will be rejected. The Agency will even deny substandard photo prints so make sure your photo is clear and has no discolouration or mark on it. You can take your photo yourself using a digital camera, but to be sure that your photo follows all requirements, go to a professional photography service instead.
