Hot Cell Phone Pick With Blackberry Phones

By Jason Hicks

In August Research in Motion (RIM) released the Blackberry Torch on the AT&T network. This phone has many upgrades over the past Blackberry phones and is the new top of the line model for them. The Torch offers all of the past strong features of Blackberry but has been updated with several new or improved features as well.

Blackberry has always been known for their virtually flawless email integration and their best in the business keyboards. Those two things have kept them floating at the top of the smartphone market share for years. With the addition of the iPhone and numerous Android devices that market share has taken quite a beating over the past year. RIM believes that the Blackberry Torch may help them keep many consumers that they have at this point and possibly win some others over.

The biggest area of opportunity that RIM has had was their web browser. That has always been considered a facet lacking on a Blackberry. With the acquisition of Torch Mobile last year there was hope that this would be much improved since that is what Torch specialized in. When they combined forces and installed the WebKit browser on the Blackberry Torch the internet surfing issues appear to be laid to rest. The browser is now very responsive and offers many upgrades over the previous one. A user can now browse the web faster, use tabbed browsing, add webpage shortcuts to the home screen, and use pinch zoom or text auto zoom.

The Torch is also the first Blackberry to use Blackberry Operating System 6. This operating system has upgraded the user interface significantly. Some of the upgrades include the web browser, updated graphics, improved touchscreen performance, Social Feed applications, and Universal Search.

This phone is unique to Blackberry as it has a sliding keyboard that slides into portrait mode. Blackberry keyboards are always well spaced and responsive and this keyboard is no different. This has always been a key factor for many people choosing this phone line and it will not disappoint.

The Torch is the first Blackberry with the updated 5 megapixel camera. The camera offers continuous autofocus, geotagging, and face detection. Although it does not have as many megapixels as other phones on the market the picture quality is top notch and can be compared favorably with any phone available.

The update of the web browser is enough to put the Blackberry Torch ahead of all other Blackberry phones. The fact that it also has a new operating system, a good camera, and a responsive sliding keyboard are definitely key factors for people looking for a new phone. These features coupled with the past Blackberry strong points will prove a good choice for consumers.
